Description:

On July 27, 2007, A.K. Gupta shared his views with this reporter on the status of the Antiwar Movement. He praised the militancy of Cindy Sheehan and the activism of the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW). Mr. Gupta added: "The Democrats won't end the war...We need an Antiwar Movement that breaks from the Democratic Party." He had spoken earlier in the evening at St. John's Church, in Baltimore, MD, on the "History of the Iraq War." His talk was sponsored by Red Emma's, a popular bookstore and coffeehouse located at 800 St. Paul St. in the Mt. Vernon area of the city. For background on Red Emma's go to: http://www.redemmas.org/. Mr. Gupta is a member of the "editorial collective of the New York Indypendent," according to a press release for the event. It added: "He has written extensively on the Iraq War and the Middle East for 'Z Magazine' and other publications." Mr. Gupta is working on a book on the Iraq War to be published by Haymarket Books.
