Apologies to all and Mr. Kapustin...I'm getting old...I've been typing "Kasputan" all over the place!

BTW I liked Signora Maria, very sweet. I speak fluent Spanish now and have forgotten most of my Italian, but let me make a feeble attempt: Buona Fortuna, amici! Ho habitato a Firenze venti cinque anni fa, ma me olvide troppo Italiano. (Yikes I'm rusty!) Anyway, nothing like the real thing. (And I really do like Kasputin.)

no i was responding to newproject555 mainly and partly Promxious95. I have nothing against are Tatum and his swing that he puts into his music. Art Tatum is one of my all time favourites. But when people say 'oh this guy has no swing, Tatum is better' its ignorant to the fact that though this may SEEM to be Jazz (hence the comparison) but its classical music using a jazz idiom. Those of you who have a CD of program notes - go read it again.

Ummmm....okay....again: I don't know if you were responding to me or one of these other posters. If you notice, I was very careful in my wording, and made no overt comparison. I consider Kasputin an interesting composer. But personally, I am more ardent and unresting, find even this discourse boring...and prefer to SWING like Tatum! Get it? BTW: RIP O.P.

Thanks so much for posting this video. I have been a Kapustin fan for many years but have several of his Russian albums, and the Osborne and Hamelin albums, but have never seen him before. Kapustin should not be compared with Art Tatum or any other jazz pianist. His music is hybrid classical - jazz: Rachmaninoff meets Oscar Peterson!

you cant compare kapustin to tatum in the way you are... Both are immensley talented pianists, perhaps Tatum was technically more able, but Tatum played JAZZ. And most of his stuff was improvised.. there are hardly any scores of his work because it was so hard to write down note by note. Kapustin writes his music in a Jazz idiom, but with classical motif and a lot of classical ideas. His music is all written down for note. No improvisation is involved.

I rather found this emotionally challenging and enjoyable, much like the times in which we live. I've read your other posts, and understand your points well. But you do sound slightly jaded. Would you have considered Ives "moving"? I see no example of composers being removed from the social fabric of their time. To call Bach "passionate" might not resonate with a tennager today. Romeo or Juliet could live today, but Bach would likely be "sewing machine" music.

You can purchase the score from Boosey and Hawkes' website. It took about a month for them to ship to me.
