Description:

July 23, 2007 Fond du Lac, Wisconsin (AHN) -- A World War II-era plane made an emergency landing on a Wisconsin highway on Sunday. Engine problems caused the 1946 North American T-6G plane to touchdown on U.S. Highway 41 near Fond du Lac Airport, the Associated Press reported. "A person called and said that there was smoke as the plane came down," said Andy Dothone, a state patrol dispatcher. The highway was closed in both directions as authorities worked to move the plane from the highway. William J. Leff of Dayton, Ohio was flying with his son to the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture show in Oshkosh. No injuries were reported, but the right wing of the plane suffered damage as it took out highway signs during its unscheduled stop.

And this, my friends, is why I love the fly-in. Something goes wrong every year without fail.

I love how the cop runs to the "speeder" before assisting the pilot.

Well, as a witness to the incident, the cop probably had him stay to give a statement to both the PD and NTSB.

My son and I were at an air show in Stuart, FL today, and the announcer told us about this incident, so of course, I did a search on YouTube as soon as we got home. Turns out his engine shuddered, he declared an emergency and was cleared into Fond Du Lac, but his engine died before he made the airport, then he damaged the right wing on a road sign, so the end result was replace the engine and repair the wing. Not bad, considering.
